Has Anyone Read E-Consultancy’s SEO Best Practice Guide?

Was looking into how to get E-Consultancy’s “Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Best Practice Guide 2007″. I wasn’t interested in paying £150 for the guide (although I’m considering paying £195 for the year).

Here’s the blurb:

“This comprehensive SEO Best Practice Guide will help you understand search marketing like never before! At over 200 pages, it contains everything you need to know about search engine optimization, whether you work for an in-house client team or for an agency.”

Quite a bold statement!

I was more interested in the people chosen for testimonials:

  • Lee Odden, President, TopRank Online Marketing
  • Adrian Land, Online Marketing Manager, Holiday-rentals.com
  • Anna-Louise Marsh-Rees, LloydsTSB
  • Alun Williams, Head of E-commerce, First Choice
  • Steve Leach, CEO, Bigmouthmedia - The Full Search Agency
  • Mario Muttenthaler, Online Marketing Manager, NET-A-PORTER.COM
  • Edward Cowell, Director, Neutralize
  • Ken McGaffin, Chief Marketing Officer, Wordtracker.com
  • Caroline McGuckian, Media Director, Whee

Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of experienced people in that list, but no professional SEO consultants? The roles of CEOs, directors and marketing managers don’t get into the nitty gritty and cutting edge of SEO in my experience. Their role is more strategic and leadership based. Having someone from Lloyds TSB tell me that it’s an indispensable guide doesn’t really cut it with me. Has anyone read this guide? Call me a cynic, but I severely doubt that the knowledge contained in this guide couldn’t be found anywhere else armed with a few search engine queries. Also, how many of the above do you think have actually read the entire 200+ pages?
